James Nachtwey

James Nachtwey has made it to my list of minimally biased photographers. As he said himself, no matter how hard you try to be neutral, war images, or civil unrest images will always aim at anti-war campaigns. That being said, I feel he did a great job at bring the issue to attention without swaying one way or the other. Not disregarding any help that is given, but stating that there is always a need for more help. His neutral opinion really helped me understand and truly appreciate his work, because so often, my appreciation of images is tainted by politically charged motives.

Captured Light:::Jim Crotty

I chose to write about this book because of the subject matter that the artist deals with. Obviously nature, and landscapes are a huge hit with me. But I also enjoy the deep colors found in mossy, stream-like areas. Many of the shots I saw were of stream beds, fall colored leaves, and wildlife. I love when I am able to be in these types of areas, and it is quite enjoyable to be able to revisit that part of me through images. I own a similar book about trees, that, on a large scale, depicts trees from all over the world, in their most beautiful times of the year. I hope to be able to capture places that I love in photos, and share them with the world.

Janel Munoa

"And so I left my fears along the honest earth and walked on, calling out under dark skies for truth among noise built up by other mens thoughts. And I found my own path and on it my song became wild and overgrown as I walked deeper into the unknown." Words from her myspace, very eloquent and poetic. I really enjoyed Janel's music video and the meaning/purpose behind it. I've written a few research paper's on Native American tragedies and realized how ignorant most Americans are to the hardships our indigenous people experienced. I enjoyed the appropriated footage in her video and particularly the progression of how the bison/buffalo were treated (becoming more and more severe/violent) I'm not sure whether it was intentional or not, but I enjoyed the progression. I also REALLY liked the animation aspect following the chalk drawing shots. I enjoyed her overall flow of the video, combined with the strong cinematography.
